Chinese Nutritional Therapy

What is Chinese Nutritional Therapy?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, food is viewed as medicine and prescribed according to your Chinese diagnosis. The food you eat plays an important role in treating both physical and emotional conditions. Natural foods, like Chinese herbs, are comprised of many healing properties and can be used to treat a vast array of medical conditions. In Chinese Nutritional Therapy, each food is comprised of certain innate characteristics. These include:
  • Thermal nature (cold, cool, neutral, warm, or hot)
  • Flavor (sweet, sour, bitter, salty, pungent, or neutral)
  • Actions (its effects on the body)
  • Indications (conditions it can treat)
Based on these characteristics, foods are recommended according to your Chinese diagnosis and individual  needs. Other important elements of Chinese Nutritional Therapy include the quality of food, food preparation, and food combining for optimal digestion.

What you will learn in your Nutritional Evaluation?
A Chinese nutritional evaluation is usually done in conjunction with treatment.  At your first meeting with Ellie, you will be given a six-day food diary to complete. This diary will be evaluated by Ellie.  A separate appointment will be scheduled to evaluate your diet. The evaluation takes approximately 75 minutes and will be presented in a spiral binder. Some of the things you will learn include:

  • Foods you should include in your diet
  • Foods you should avoid
  • Articles for specific digestive imbalances
  • Food preparation
  • Sample menus
  • Supplement recommendations
  • Food combining for better digestion
  • Daily food percentages and proportions
  • Importance of organic foods

Sustaining your Health through Diet
Chinese Nutritional Therapy is the cornerstone to sustaining the changes you make once treatment is completed. The goal is to educate and empower you to maintain your health in a natural and enjoyable way without the reliance on pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter drugs.

Conditions treated with Chinese Nutritional Therapy
