Water Element

Picture
The energy of Water is deep, dark, mysterious, and powerful. It can be the infinite peace of a reflective pool, the endurance of the perpetual tides, or the intense torrent of a flood.

Corresponding attributes:
  • Organs: Kidney and Urinary Bladder
  • Function: Elimination
  • Emotion: Fear (negative) and Will (positive)
  • Energy: Floating

Personality: Some of Water's most important strengths are incredible inner courage, tenacity, determination, and willpower that surpass any other Element's. There's also an innate wisdom, the agility to touch at a very deep level what the primal mystery of life is truly about. If you are a Water person, you have a depth of feeling that others rarely access. This, along with your inner courage, can be your source of success in life.

The challenge for this Element is the emotion of fear, which will show up during stressful times. Fear can make your Water freeze in place, and you'll find yourself unable to move forward. You may also feel as though you're swirling around in a little whirlpool, unable to make a decision or take action. Water often responds to fear by withdrawing and becoming cautious or even secretive, unable to speak up to resolve a problem.

Because of this tendency toward secretiveness, silence, or withdrawing when upset, it may be the case that if someone has hurt your feelings, he may never know it. In the end, the relationship can falter because of the hidden hurts you're not able to acknowledge.

As a Water person, you truly feel things more deeply and are affected by those emotions more than other people. You have a tendency to cry at the drop of a hat. It is not a sign of weakness, but rather an indication of how deeply you experience life.

If you're part of this element, you're probably fascinated with that sense of mystery to life and uncovering the truth deep within it. Water is the fertile space without boundaries, where anything can happen and creativity can thrive. You're dreamy, creative person - the artist, writer, musician, or philosopher. Or you may be the intuitive, who plumbs the depth of the sea of consciousness to bring answers to the surface.

Freedom is of utmost importance to the Water person. Restrictions of any kind don't fit well with the need to flow. Water does not stand still - you have the tendency to always move toward the mystery and away from the mundane.

As a Water person, you won't speak quickly, nor do you always come to the point very efficiently. Instead, you'll tend to wander as you speak and sometimes talk all around a subject. You'll feel best if you can make a decision slowly or work on a problem quietly over time.
In daily life, you'll love to stay up late into the dark stillness of the night and to sleep late, immersed in your dreams. Privacy is also very important to you. You need time alone to be quiet.

Clothing: You love flowy clothes and cover yourself from neck to ankle in some softly beautiful outfit, probably with a trailing scarf or velvet jacket. Your thick, lustrous hair may be worn long and wavy. Ethnic or artistic fashion are your preference, and blues and blacks are common Water colors. You'll probably choose footwear that you can kick off easily.

Home: Water element likes...water! You'll tend to prefer to live near a lake, river, or ocean, and it's even better if you can see it directly from your home.. Your decor is sensual and unusual, with velvet curtains or plush upholstery and ornaments from exotic place or indigenous cultures. You'll thrive in environments where there can be some dark corners, some mystery in places.

Movement: The forms of yoga that involve slow, flowing motions and breath are perfect for Water people. Swimming, of course, is another good activity, along with ice skating, tai chi, dancing, and anything that doesn't involve tension or forced movements.

Profession: If you're Water, you could be naturally drawn to work in creative fields such as art, music, or writing. You could also be a brilliant therapist, with your wise and courageous ability to travel to those deep inner places. You might also find yourself in jobs dealing with money, such as financial planning, or in the medical profession.

Physical Imbalances: The Kidneys store life essence and regulate fluid metabolism. A weakness in kidneys will manifest as poor growth and development, anemia, impotence, infertility, edema, and fluid metabolism disorders. The kidneys govern the bones, marrow, hair, and ears. A kidney deficiency may result in the bones becoming soft or brittle, hearing ability diminishing, and hair becoming thin or brittle. Urinary disorder may also present themselves.
