Meet Ellie Pickering
Ellie received her master's degree in Chinese medicine from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in 2003. She is board certified and licensed in the state of Illinois. She has worked extensively with acute and chronic pain conditions especially migraine headaches. Ellie also works with women's health treating conditions that include PMS, hormonal migraine, pregnancy, infertility, menopause, weight loss, chronic urinary tract infections, and depression/anxiety disorders.
Nutrition. Being an avid lover of whole food cookery and nutrition, Ellie includes diet therapy as part of her practice. She has studied with Paul Pitchford (author of "Healing with Whole Foods") and Bob Flaws (author of "The Tao of Healthy Eating"). Massage. Ellie is also a certified massage therapist and a graduate of the Chicago School of Massage Therapy, and has maintained a successful practice in Evanston since 1987. She is highly skilled in musculo-skeletal conditions and has received certifications in neuromuscular massage therapy (St. John Method), pregnancy massage (Somatic Learning Institute), and sports massage. Additional studies include shiatsu (Japanese massage), reflexology, orthobionomy, and aromatherapy with Marcel Levabre and Michael Scholes.
Yoga. Ellie began her study of Iyengar yoga in 1989 and began teaching yoga in 1996. She has studied with some of the senior Iyengar instructors including Lois Steinberg, Manuso Manos, Judy Landecker.and Leslie Riley. She has taught at various yoga studios in Evanston including her own yoga studio in 2003-2004. As the former director of the Na'ama Rose Dance Center, Ellie conducted yoga workshops as well as taught weekly yoga classes. Her in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology, understanding of Chinese energetics, and her gentle-natured approach earn her the reputation as being a knowledgeable and compassionate yoga instructor. She welcomes you to join her class.
Dance. Ellie's received a B.A. in dance from Barat College where she studied classical ballet. After college, Ellie continued her study of dance at the Lou Conte Dance Studio and went on to perform professionally in numerous dance venues. In 1996, she began to study Egyptian belly dance and traveled to Egypt to study with Mahmoud Reda, founder of the highly esteemed Reda Troupe, and Farida Fahmy, queen of Egyptian dance. She is an award-winning dancer and has performed nationwide. In 2007, she danced in the Lyric Opera of Chicago's production of Salome as one of the belly dancers and was one of the feature dancers at their 2007 annual fundraiser. Ellie is a devoted teacher and generously imparts her knowledge and skill with all of her students.
